Macari Vineyards

One of the most popular vineyards on the North Fork, Macari Vineyards is celebrated for its family-operated winemaking dating back three generations. Located on a scenic plot of land that was originally a potato farm, Macari Vineyards is an area staple and frequently engages with the local community through events and live music sessions. 

The wine-tasting experience at Macari is top-notch. Tastings take place in a beautiful setting overlooking a vineyard, with samples including Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Dos Aguas blend. The star of the show, however, is their signature sparkling wine named “HORSES”. 

Each tasting is rounded out with a variety of gourmet cheeses, charcuterie, and local sourdough bread. Pindar Vineyards

Pindar Vineyards is one of the largest and oldest wineries in North Fork. Started in 1979 by Dr. Herdotus “Dan” Damianos, Pindar Vineyards was born out of a great love for winemaking and is one of the original pioneers of Long Island Wine Country. Still family-owned and operated today, their commitment to tradition and first-class service continues to set them apart. 

Pindar Vineyards encompasses more than 300 acres and produces a wide variety of wines, ranging from dry to sweet. Especially popular is their signature Pythagoras wine, a blend that captures the essence of red varieties. They also have several popular whites including chardonnay and sauvignon blanc. 

Vineyard tours and a tasting room overlooking the fields are both excellent ways to experience the many wines produced at Pindar Vineyards. Special wine release parties and live music events throughout the year further lock in this classic establishment as one of the best vineyards to visit in North Fork. 

Kontokosta Winery

If you prefer your wine tasting with seaside views and the smell of saltwater, Kontokosta Winery is the place for you. Perched on top of the sweeping bluffs overlooking the Long Island Sound, Kontokosta offers a breathtaking chance to sip merlot while listening to the sound of crashing waves.

The natural beauty of Kontokosta Winery is accompanied by a large variety of signature flavors, among which you’ll find sauvignon blanc, viognier, riesling, and merlot. Their most popular offering is their Anemometer white–a crisp blend of viognier and chardonnay known for its quality and excellent pairing with local seafood. 

Kontokosta Winery offers a more exclusive experience than others in the region, and scheduling a reservation beforehand is a must as walk-ins aren’t allowed. Bedell Cellars

Another classic winery with deep roots, Bedell Cellars has made headlines more than once. This North Fork staple was founded in 1980 when Kip Bedell planted his first vine, and in the years since has set the standard for quality winemaking in the eastern United States. Their signature Merlot was served at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural luncheon, and the current owners have been featured in the New York Post. 

Publicity hasn’t changed the down-to-earth values and commitment to tradition that Bedell is known for though. From the vineyards to the tasting rooms, their team of dedicated staff continue to pursue excellence and ensure that Bedell’s quality remains front and center.

Sparkling Pointe

Last but not least is Sparkling Pointe. So-named for their signature sparkling wines made using the traditional Méthode Champenoise, their meticulous production methods reflect the winery’s commitment to quality and tradition. 

The 40-acre vineyard was established in 2010 and contains a variety of Champagne grape varietals, including Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. Sparkling Point’s state-of-the-art facilities ensure that every bottle is produced with the utmost attention to detail, which has earned them a reputation as one of the best sparkling wine makers in the US.
